2023 Council Application Process -- Deadline to apply extended

Applications are currently being accepted for Council membership at the 2023 Biennial Meeting. The dates and location for this meeting are April 24-28, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

Applications will be accepted until 11:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 5, 2022. There is no cost to apply and applications must be submitted online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2023-council-membership-application-tickets-367559780197


The duties of the three Councils are summarized as follows:
Council I - Laws and Regulations deliberates Issues pertaining to laws, regulations and model codes governing the safety of food.
Council II - Administration, Education and Certification deliberates Issues relating to the Constitution and Bylaws, Conference procedures, memoranda of understanding, program evaluation, education, training and certification.
Council III - Science and Technology deliberates Issues pertaining to food science and technology related to food safety.

Each council is formed according to Articles XII-XIII of the current CFP Constitution and Bylaws. Criteria are based on regulatory/industry balance, geographic diversity, balanced representation among CFP constituencies, and previous experience in CFP. All CFP members, with the exception of Emeritus and Student members, are eligible to apply for Council membership. Applicants may indicate a preference for up to three Councils. However, they may only select each Council one time.

In accordance with the CFP Constitution and Bylaws, Emeritus and Student members of the CFP are eligible to apply to serve on a Council only when specifically called upon to do so by the Executive Board. Therefore, Emeritus or Student members interested in serving as a Council member are asked to send an email to Dr. David McSwane at dmcswane.cfp@gmail.com to be considered for an appointment to a Council by the Executive Board should the need arise.
